The project created by the young artist Alice Schivardi (Erba,1976) was carried out in the spaces of the Anffas association, in Toscolano Maderno (BR).
The project was created specifically for these spaces, revisiting and, at the same time, re-evaluating the concept of place, person and memory.
Some women, carefully chosen by the artist, were invited to participate in the event by creating tailor-made clothes for all guests of the structure hosted in this place to treat their ailments.
In this operation, the body becomes the “memory of the body” and the concept of work and, more generally, of the work of man as a means for sustenance of life is expressed in a symbolic way.
The perimeter of a room allows the artist to appropriate the measure of time, space and people by creating, in a strictly poetic way, a path between words, images and objects and triggering a mechanism of documentation of the experience.
For an effective description and understanding of the operation, the words of the Russian writer I. S. Turgenev could be cited: “The art of a population is its living soul, its thought, its language, the highest meaning of this word. Reached its full expression, it becomes the heritage of all humanity, precisely because art is the speaking and thinking soul of man, and the soul does not die, but survives the physical existence of the body ..
If art, therefore, is the most concrete means to unite the most different people, the artist, through an extremely poetic language, highlights the mental dynamics of the local people in relation both to the same place and to the memory that these individuals leave daily around themselves.
Alice Schivardi’s installation takes shape from the interaction between people and place, between content and container.
